Fitness Tips for Beginners

Fashion/ Style

Embarking on a path toward a healthier lifestyle can be a monumental and overwhelming decision. There’s a wealth of information on working out and eating right available online, and if you aren’t careful, it’s easy to feel intimidated by the entire challenge.

However, starting your fitness journey doesn’t have to be a scary process. Before you head to the gym or ruthlessly remove all of the sugary snacks from your kitchen, consider these important but simple tips for the average fitness beginner:

When it comes to changing your lifestyle, you’ll need to develop long-lasting habits if you really want to see results. Running six miles and dieting for one week, then vegging out and eating fast food for the next, won’t give you the healthy body you’re looking for. It’s all about consistency.

Begin your fitness journey by establishing a realistic exercise schedule that you can start adhering to. A smart goal to start with is getting active for 30 minutes to an hour three to four times every week. Once you’ve been able to maintain that schedule, consider bulking up your workout routine a little more.

Many people burn out soon after they decide to work on their bodies because they take on too much, too quickly. Establish a healthy, doable pace and remind yourself that you’re in this for the long haul.

If you aren’t very comfortable in the weight room, then you need to take the time to learn about proper posture, the different machines, and how much weight your body can handle. Poorly mimicking the workouts of others around you won’t do you much good; everyone’s body is different.

You need to figure out what strength training routine works for your current physical abilities. Failing to handle weights safely can lead to painful pulled muscles and other dangerous injuries, so take the smart road and do your research before attempting dozens of deadlifts.

Even if you prefer running over lifting weights, you’ll see the biggest improvements if you start effectively pairing your aerobic activities with occasional strength training. Recent studies have found that doing a round of cardio before you head into the weight room can give you a more intense workout. That means you’ll see improvements in your body and its abilities more quickly than if you stick to just one type of exercise.

If you’re killing yourself during your workouts but eating like an unhealthy teenager when you’re not in the gym, then you probably won’t start seeing the results you want anytime soon. To build a healthy body, you need to prioritize a nutritional diet and frequent physical activity. When you start eating healthier, you’ll be able to perform better in the gym, which will speed up your fitness progress and help you lose weight.

Throwing on a ratty old t-shirt and your old tennis shoes when you head to the gym isn’t a great way to motivate yourself or increase your performance. Materials like cotton are terrible at handling sweat, so you’ll increase your chances of overheating and feeling fatigued.

Furthermore, your sneakers get worn out after a while, so you might need to replace that old pair you’ve been running errands in since you were in college. You can also up your style with your gear. Switch out your boring laces for reflective or flat laces. These little changes can improve your mood and confidence, making your workout better.

Additionally, your confidence in your workout wardrobe can play a role in your athletic performance. According to recent research, wearing workout gear that makes you feel fashionable or attractive can actually improve your abilities during exercise.

A study in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology indicates that the clothing you wear can influence your behavior and attitude if it carries a symbolic meaning. Therefore, by wearing the clothes you feel “real” fitness gurus wear, you’ll be more inclined to perform like a fitness guru.

Worried about spending lots of money on building a workout wardrobe? Shop sales in specialty stores, online clearance racks, and smaller retailers. They can offer you good prices on quality brands that will make you feel like a professional athlete, such as Nike, Adidas, and NorthFace.

I like going to the gym and do classes like zumba or body combat. I don’t really go into the gym where the machines are as I don’t really know what to do with them. But having a teacher and working out in a group motivates me.

I am terrible for embarking on a fitness journey and giving up a couple of weeks later. Whenever I spend a bit on fitness gear it always motivates me to go to the gym and make use of it, otherwise it’d just be a waste!
