When I think about Valentine’s day my mind jumps to a few specific things. Chocolate of course, because who doesn’t enjoy sweet things from hopefully someone that’s just as sweet. Wine, because it is five o’clock somewhere and everyday deserves a toast. I can’t forget about the cards, dinners, and flowers, my favorite being english roses. The joy they bring when someone has them delivered right to your front door. Lastly but surely not the least I think of diamonds and the lucky ones whose diamonds are accompanied with heartfelt proposals.
I can’t think of anything more exciting than receiving a little shiny something in a box. If you’re anything like me, a girl who loves a little sparkle, I’m sure you’d agree. This valentine’s day when you think about love why not think about diamonds as an expression of love. The plus side to that is that a beautiful diamond never goes out of style.
I must admit I am a bit of a hopeful romantic. Yes, hopeful not hopeless which is why I love valentine’s day so much. Maybe I will get to open up something extra special from a secret admirer or one of my galentines. Chocolates or flowers, either will do.
One of my favorite things to do growing up was to give out valentines at school. Diamonds may have been a little too much for me to give to a class of my peers. My excitement was in the smile I put on someone’s face when they opened their card.
Then there are the proposals! How can one think about valentine’s day and not think about the the millions, yes millions, of couples each year who decide to say I love you forever with a sparkly, bright, shiny diamond. Each proposal unique from the other. Each diamond even more beautiful because of the meaning behind it. Each love celebrating a new beautiful beginning.
Much like how diamonds play a major role in those special valentine’s day proposal stories, if you dig a little deeper your diamond may even play a bigger role in someone’s life story. Programs supported by members of the diamond industry develop and empower people living and working in diamond communities around the world. For instance, Brilliant Earth, the online jewelry and engagement ring destination, supports the Diamond Development Initiatives Mobile School Program in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). In the DRC 1 in 4 children don’t have access to formal education. Through the Mobile School program, traveling teachers and portable materials are brought to mining communities for a condensed school year. These communities are in remote locations where children, particularly girls, would not otherwise have access to education. With the help of Brilliant Earth, these young girls are learning to shine bright like a diamond. What a beautiful example of love.
When you give that special someone a little red box or maybe tiffany blue remember diamonds really do last forever. For more inspiring stories of how diamonds positively impact people around the world visit DiamondsDoGood.com.

I think it’s important to try support companies like this, and help give back where possible.
This is a topic that I feel like needs to be discussed far more than it really is, but then again, where’s that fine line? If we start scrutinizing every industry like we do the diamond industry, chances are we’ll be appalled at what we find. Definitely a morally conflicting situation, and I so appreciate you sharing your thoughts on it.
what a lovely story, it’s really important for companies to give back to areas they (for want of a better word) invade for these products. really great!
Making sure the sourcing of diamonds is done in the best way possible is so important I think and being able to see children benefit is amazing.
Oh wow! It is so good to read this. I know that the diamond industry can be questionable, so it’s great to read about a company that is ethical and doing their part to make the world a better place.

I love to hear of companies giving back and think that its so important to make sure that products, materials and food supplies are ethically sourced xxx
This is so inspiring! Yet another reason to love diamonds!
What a fantastic project being done by Brilliant Earth, when we got my engagement ring we made sure to get an ethically sourced diamond – I wonder if it was one of theirs.
This is such an inspiring post. Its sad to think some children may not have access to education, but I love hearing about programs that do help children like this. Thanks so much for sharing!
This is such a beautiful and inspiring story, It’s lovely to hear what Brilliant Earth are doing xo
This is so inspiring and such a lovely post!!
It sounds like Brilliant Earth are doing a great job of helping others with proceeds from sales. I think that helps encourage people to purchase from these sorts of companies rather than those that are just after profits.
Brilliant Earth sounds great, definitely a great example of love! 🙂
I loved reading your post. It is as important to find out if your gemstones are ethically sourced as it is your clothing and food stuffs. It is so good to hear of companies giving back to the communities in which they operate too x
I did give valentine’s day card at school. The guy humilated me though telling everyone i must have sent it. Less said… on a positive note, it is always nice to hear of goodwill from businesses; doesn’t happen nearly enough! x
I used to love V-Day as a kid too… Valentines cards for all my friends and boyfriends :-)… ooo there were the times 😉
Handing out valentines at school when I was younger was one of my favorite things to do!
When I used to work in a jewellers it was so great to help guys pick out engagement rings especially around valentines day. Personally, I wouldn’t want to get proposed to at Valentine’s day but I understand why some people do it x
What a lovely post – it’s so nice to hear of a diamond company giving back x
This is such a great post. I love hearing about companies giving back.

It is lovely that Brilliant earth helps give back to the people who make our dreams happen with diamonds. So sad that they are suffering xx
So inspiring! And those children look precious. I never knew this much about diamonds before!
I really enjoyed reading this, it’s very informative too x
I think that we should all do a bit of research and find out what companies support programs like this and give our business to companies who give back to the communities where their products come from. If I have the choice of buying a diamond from a company supports programs like this or one that doesn’t I am definitely going to buy from the one who supports the programs x
It’s nice to see a diamond company giving back! What a great post.
aw what a beautiful post and it’s very disheartening to think there are still so many children out there not given the opportunity of something so important as education
