Vintage Style for Women Over Forty

Fashion/ Style

There are many brands on the market that specialize in making suitable attire for women in their forties. These styles typically reflect the current trending fashions. But if you are a woman in your forties, do you really need someone to choose what style they deem suitable for your age? You already know what looks best on you. Even though it may be fun to follow the fashion trends, I am sure you have some old favorites that express your personality and admiration for a certain era of fashion.

Vintage style clothing can show sophistication and help express personality. Any clothing made after the 1920s is considered vintage. Another term is retro. The term retro is a shortened term for retrospective. This refers to the “vintage style” of clothing. It refers to clothing that was made to imitate vintage or antique clothing. Antique clothing is any clothing made prior to 1920. Newer clothing is called modern. Style for women in their forties should reflect their personality as well as their style. Women in their forties are refined and sophisticated.vintage-clothing

1960 It’s not difficult to add a twist to an old look to make it look new. You may like 1950’s V neck pleated dresses with the slim waist band or the late 1970’s beige pencil skirts with a dress shirt. The options are limitless. Thrift stores and yard sales are great places to search for vintage style clothing. Specialty shops are often located downtown in larger cities. These shops might be a bit more expensive but well worth it.

Larger sizes such as plus size vintage clothing is uncommon. Sizes in previous eras were smaller than they are today. When you are shopping for vintage clothing you might want to get at least one size up. Mediums are more comparable to smalls. If you are having trouble finding vintage clothing purchase a pattern that is retro or you may even be able to find an actual vintage sewing pattern.

Vintage clothing can express one love for era of fashion. It is not limited to a younger generation. If you are a woman in your forties how can you be insecure about wearing vintage attire? In a sense, you are vintage yourself. Vintage does not mean old: It means seasoned and unique. It’s a distinguished piece of fashion that has stood the test of time.

I am not even 30 yet and I absolutely love vintage/retro style clothing. I always joke that I was born in the wrong Era because I love the style from the 1920’s-1950’s. I agree that the best places to find vintage clothing is in thrift shops. I am always shocked by how many vintage items I see. I always want to buy it all.
